crystal method

i was at Century City mall last week and spotted the legendary Crystal McCarey. "are you the Soul Train dancer?" i asked. "yes, i am" she replied. we talked about how cool it is that they're airing the Best of Soul Train on saturday nights. i didn't tell her how obsessed i became with her about 5 years ago. i think she was on the show even longer than the Asian chick with the long hair. she now designs her own jewelry collection.

meanwhile, the only reason i went to Century City mall was to see Death Race. it sucked ass. i was hoping Joan Allen was gonna bring it like an ol' school b-movie villianess... she didn't. the whole time i'm watching this yawnathon, i'm thinkin' Sharon Stone would've been perfect for this.

saw Hamlet 2 in Delaware on friday night. it effin rocked my cock! funny as hell. 4 people walked out of the movie after 15 minutes, leaving J and i as the only 2 audience members.

east coast

J and i drove from NYC to Delaware City for an outdoor gig we thought would be certainly cancelled due to Hurricane Hanna. the show went on as scheduled. it stopped raining 30 minutes before i took the stage. i had fun, but caught a wicked cold. too bad i feel so crappy, cause it's a beautiful day here back in Gotham.

que sera, sera

Georges came to LA and visited me for a few days. he brought 5 of his paintings that he re-stretched and hung in my apartment. i also went to Allee Willis' and acquired 2 new paintings from Bubbles The Artist. my place has now been totally transformed.

Georges and i were so consumed by Doris Day that we listened to her music non-stop and watched season 4 of her TV show every night. having so much Doris on the brain, it shouldn't have surprised me to cross paths with one of Doris' old boyfriends, but it did.

Sly Stewart of Sly & The Family Stone dated Doris in the early 70's. he and his entourage were having lunch outside on Sunset Plaza when i walked by. he waved at me and i waved back. i'll never forget seeing Sly & The Family Stone perform at the height of their popularity. he took the stage nearly 2 hours late, but it was well worth the wait.

This was originally to be a comeback vehicle for Marilyn Monroe, under the working title of Something's Got to Give. Monroe was fired for seldom showing up, appearing in only about 30 minutes of usable film. Unable to complete the movie, and having already sunk a considerable amount of money into the production, 20th Century Fox went ahead with the project, under a new title, new director, and recast stars. At first, they tried to continue with Lee Remick in Monroe's place, but Dean Martin balked at working with anyone else and that version was never completed. Monroe was re-hired but died before she could resume filming. Doris Day and James Garner were eventually cast.

ladython

we finished shooting on tuesday night. it's now friday morning and i finally feel somewhat recovered. the show is completely and totally off the MF chain... far exceeding our expectations. we thought we were going in there to produce a drag competition reality show, but what happened was a drag competition reality show produced us and itself. the damn thing had a mind of it's own! i am so happy with the results, and i promise you will be too. it premieres in january on LOGO.

the photo above is from an annual LA event called "Best in Drag Show" to benefit "Aid For AIDS".
